Hi Douglas, sorry there isn't a way to change the length at the moment. It's a feature I'd love to add in the future.

Chris,

I am attempting to use the "Our Progress" widget you have made. The widget displays to long on my website and I was hoping maybe there is a way I can shorten the length of it.

Is that possible?

BTW... Great Widget!

Don't really think it'll make any difference to our adsense income.
Hope readers that go to our sites don't feel confused with this.

Well, clearly you don't *have* to upgrade but Bluehost does offer a higher cost/performance account for websites that have outgrown their standard plan. It's a straight forward solution to the throttling problem.

Updating Bluehost to a higher CPU account may solve your issue

Does it mean I have to upgrade my account by paying more? Wee, that sucks. I remember when I was using wordpress.com and few of my post wen viral..even for more than 20k hits a day it never slowed down and with bluehost it sucks at just 600 visits a day...

I'll give it a try to ultimate-wordpress-caching-method .. I hope it would be helpful.

@Abhishek, I think the support at Bluehost is fantastic for what you're paying.

Updating Bluehost to a higher CPU account may solve your issue, or alternatively following the Ultimate Caching Method (http://thisismyurl.com/6463/ultimate-wordpress-caching-method/) will do it for sure.

Hi again Christopher,

How would I offload RSS pages to Google? Do you mean using Google somehow as a CDN?. Do you know how I would cache that specifically? ... I do have the "Quick Cache" plugin activated. I noticed that it does seem to slow to a crawl early in the morning (7 to 9 am eastern) so maybe something external to bluehost and my visitors is hitting hard at that time... this is so frustrating, but I hate to jump from the frying pan into the fire with another hosting service that may be even worse

Thanks, Ron

Hi Ryan, the RSS feed is requested by visitors (like yourself) who want to be notified of fresh content on a website. In theory this is great but in practice, the result is that multiple users will sign up for notifications, with their reader checking for fresh content several times per day.

Let's assume for example that your reader is set to check once an hour and that 1,000 clients subscribe to your website via RSS. That's 24,000 requests a day for your feeds. If you link your site's RSS feed via Facebook or Twitter tools for example, they'll check once ever 15 minutes, for almost a hundred requests a day.

Caching has gotten much better since I wrote this post but for clients hosting on Bluehost I still take these precautions.
