WordPress Plugin to automatically update the copyright notice.
What is this WordPress plugin?
thisismyurl.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/auto-copyright.png" rel="lightbox[roadtrip]">This plugin automatically generates a copyright notice from the first post in your blog to the current year. The Auto Copyright notice plugin fetches the first and last year of posts from the database and displays the results as a copyright notice on your website.
This process allows blog owners to add content retroactively, knowing that the website will automatically find the first date a post is published as well as the last published date or the current year (whichever is later).
To use the plugin, simply download it and add the code <?php echo autocopyright();?> to your website where you’d like the copyright notice to appear.
How You Can Help
I love developing plugins for WordPress and do my best to always keep them free but of course it take a lot of time and effort to build these plugins so if you’d like to say thanks, the best way is to take a few moments and write about the plugin on your own website, include a link to my website from your posts or download and rate the plugin on the official plugin directory.

sorry it keeps running the code:

Is an example of the code I was trying to paste.
Side line point allowing php execution in the comment section is a risk is it not?
Donace’s last blog post..Windows XP Registry Tweaks
Hi Donace, my point in creating this plugin (and the code which is on another page) was specifically to overcome the problem posed by simply placing copyright 200X on a footer.
I do appreciate most people would never give the copyright notice a second thought, but for me it was a point of frustration.
No I mean what the code does is automatically update the ‘year’ for the later part; ie. it would say copyright 200x-200y where x is manually entered and Y is automatically updated.
Essentially what your plug-in does but without being a plugin :D

… but … but … that would mean doing something without it being a plugin … the world might end :)
Actually I totally agree, it’s not a life altering, world changing plugin and on a purely technical note the code is already stored in another article but one thing I’ve learnt about WP users over the past few years is that many prefer to use plugins to editing their code.
As for the idea of simply editing the code to place 200x – 200y, you’re 100% right. It’s easy and people can do it quickly. My only reason for not doing it is that I like being a code monkey.
Perhaps this plugin is a solutions in search of a problem?
I never noticed that tutorial …must explore your site a bit more…where’s that sitemap :p (btw th elink to the tutorial has a ‘ at the end…not good for internal linking :p)
Though yes I see where your coming from usability trumps optimising for speed :p (yes I know my site needs work…but i’m not a code monkey just a theorist :p)

Nice plugin. Simple. Speaking of copyright WordPress use, I’ve wondered if a link back to WordPress is required, and if so, does the link need to be a dofollow.

Nice idea I suppose … good for people who don’t know how to code worth beans. Or for someone who changes their theme all the time.
Though I prefer not relying on a plugin for something as simple as adding a few lines to a footer.
It’s easy enough for me to put the copyright symbol and then the basic PHP code that changes to the current. Fast and effective and no need for a plug.
Tadd’s last blog post..Epic Fail
Hey Tadd, you’re 100% right. There’s no reason for people to do this if they’re comfortable updating the footer of their website themselves or … if they’re capable of putting in the PHP (http://www.thisismyurl.com/tutorials/wordpress-help/generating-a-dynamic-copyright-notice-in-wordpress/) or simply typing the HMTL code.
On the other hand, it was a plugin that I enjoyed writing and if a couple of people benefit from it, I’m happy.
Thank you for your creativity and the desire to help the other people.I also want to express hope the plugin will be helpfull.
Thank you for the resource, it’s a good one.
