Hotlink Protection Plugin for WordPress

Welcome to my blog, please feel free to subscribe to my RSS feed, join me on Twitter or leave a comment.

Everyday websites suffer performance loss and higher bills due to bandwidth thieves. This plugin adds the necessary code to your .htaccess file to stop people from loading your graphics from third party websites.

What is a bandwidth thief?

Since many website hosting companies charge per file transferred (or total file transfer size for the month), unscrupulous website owners often load key graphic files from smaller, unsuspecting website owners in hopes of both lowering the costs of running their website and increasing the performance of their site.

This plugin uses Apache’s .htaccess capacity to stop foreign websites from loading images from your web server.

You may download the WordPress plugin for free.

Hi! i´ve installed the hotlink protection plug in, but it doesn´t work at all, i don´t know what to do.
First, i´ve created the .htaccess file and i uploaded (first as a text file, then i change to .htaccess file)on the server, then i change all permissions to 777. my question is: do i need to upload the .htaccess file blank? i mean the text file sould be blank, and then the plug in, when gets activated fill the text file? or sould i create the file with everything on it and the plug in puts a little extra? i check the hotlinks with this site: http://www.htmlbasix.com/disablehotlinking.shtml and doesn´t seem to be workig as suppose to be.
my web site is: http://www.revistatianguis.com and i really need to stop the hotlinking, because suddenly my bandwith for the month is almost gone, and i don´t have many visitors (i wish!!!)
    thank´s

I’m having the same problem as Nik. I had to disable the plugin after an upgrade to 2.9.x because it removed all the wordpress images and theme images.
