The fund raising tool is a true WordPress plug-in, testing with WordPress 2.7 and fully functional. It features:
- W3C compliant Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
- Dynamically updated text including target and current fund status
- Money formating options for use internationally
- Theme options, allowing designers to customize the look of the thermometer
- Call either the graphic or a formated number to display in text.
Admin Features
The new interface allows uses to set both the current amount (what has been raised) as well as the target amount (what you want to raise). The script automatically generates the ten steps in between and displays them for the user.
The plugin auto detects if the money_format() function is present and will use it automatically if found, otherwise it will display the currency using the number format function automatically.
How It Works
To display the current amount of money raised (in currently format) place the following code in your theme:
<?php echo show_ourprogress();?>
For a graphical version (by default the thermometer), include the following code:
<?php show_ourprogress_graphic();?>
Where to Get It
The plugin can be downloaded from the official WordPress repository:
How You Can Help
I love developing plugins for WordPress and do my best to always keep them free but of course it take a lot of time and effort to build these plugins so if you’d like to say thanks, the best way is to take a few moments and write about the plugin on your own website, include a link to my website from your posts or download and rate the plugin on the official plugin directory.

Hi, we have set up a fundraising site at http://www.bridgeandwheels.co.uk However, I dont get the drop down menu in Settings showing me the Currency Format, I only see the Amount, Target Amount and Theme. When I upgrade to the latest version, the themes aren’t selectable. Can anyone help? I want to change it from the dollar to the good old British Pund currency symbol! Thanks

I just downloaded the plugin and the themes are not selectable for me. I am wondering how Paul Taylor (comment#48) was resolved because I am having the same issues?
I too am having the reset problems. Seems it resets, anytime someone posts a comment, and any time I change any of my blog settings…
Wow, this is cool. I was thinking about raising some funds so I could compete in a local triathlon this summer. Maybe I’ll end up using this. I really like the look of it.

Its a very nice plugin. :)
Dave’s last blog post..Huge collection of RSS Icons
This is fun to have on the wordpress blog. Makes a help to cause much easier.
To those who have been having problems with the new version of the plugin not displaying themes or graphics properly… edit the ourprogress.php file and change the following two lines (old directory references)
Ln 94: $path = “../wp-content/plugins/ourprogress/images/”;
Change to:
$path = “../wp-content/plugins/fundraising-thermometer-plugin-for-wordpress/images/”;
Ln 170: echo ” . “\n”;
change to:
echo ” . “\n”;
sorry, last post got messed up…
anyway, change references “/plugins/ourprogress/” to “/plugins/fundraising-thermometer-plugin-for-wordpress/” and it should all work out.
Can’t get this to work either. Everything seems to be named correctly, permissions are set as well. Nothing displays.
I’m having the same problem with the values being reset to zero. Did anyone find a fix?
Dave’s last blog post..Great News!
Hi guys, I’m in the process of working on an improved version of the plugin. Please bear with me while I work some of the bugs out, it’s been a learning curve for me to be able to write some of the functions involved in this one. Chris
Awesome plugin,
would love to see the improved version, good luck with it!
Chris the line that you asked that we change. $path = “../wp-content/plugins/fundraising-thermometer-plugin-for-wordpress/images/”;
I put my domain name like this and it works. $path = “http://www.glifechurch.com//wp-content/plugins/fundraising-thermometer-plugin-for-wordpress/images/”
So you may want to capture the domain name and pass that value into the string.
Sorry an extra slash was put in the code:
$path=”yourdomain_name_here/wp-content/plugins/fundraising-thermometer-plugin-for-wordpress/images/” Worked
Christ, After I added my domain name to the code, I lost the drop down option for the colors. It’s no big deal for me, but others may comment about no color options.
To solve my problem (I wanted red) I switched the default-red and the default folders. default-red was named default and uploaded to my site.
The image doesn’t seem to line up with the numbers:

hi, are you still supporting this plugin? i’m on wp 2.7.1 and your plugin keeps reverting back to zero and the default theme no matter what numbers i enter on the admin page. any ideas or help you can provide? thanks.
Hi, Thank you for such an amazing plug-in. Is there a way to change it from a monetary amount to an amount of books? So instead of $100000.00 to 100000 books? Thanks

Hi…
I want to place the graph in an area of 170px width x 180px height… can you help me? (green CSS)
Thanks
I need a way to make the thermometer twice as small as it is to make my pages display better I tried adjusting the height using the CSS but that just makes the rest of the thermometer not visible is there anyway to scale it down to a 300px height or so?

Oh and I would also like to be able to put a text description of the Thermometer over top of it as well, and is there anyway to just add this thermometer to one page?

Somebody help with the shrinking?!?!?
I’m with EDJ, Patricia, Josh and Jesse. It keeps reverting to the default theme, the graph doesn’t line up with my current amount, and I need it to be smaller.
besides that I love it.
Hey guys, I’ve been trying to figure out why it would be reverting for a couple months now.
Does it happen at any specific time? For example, is it following an upgrade or is it random?
thanks for the plugin Chris, the resetting is still happening. I will look into the time of day it happens. How is the new version coming?

Hi There. This looks like it’ll be a great add on to the fund raiser we run. The issue I’m running into is that the image does not look like it’s see through (big white borders) and the text for the funds does not appear. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Al.

Ignore the last post. I inadvertently removed the string from the currency format. Thanks
Great tool!!!

Hi Christopher,
I wanted to ask you if this thermometer can be used with JSP pages. If yes, how would I go about doing that? Do i need to convert the PHP code to Java? We use glass fish server which does not support PHP.
Thanks,
Hey Chris,
Drop another one in the keeps resetting camp. It seems to happen and there is no pattern.
Any help would be great.
Otherwise awesome tool
George
Fixed the size and remove all the options to leave just default to match my theme…
but is resetting all the time! everytime I go to cP, goes 0
Hi
I also have a problem with the amount lining up with the image. As well as the default theme always being selected.
E.
Thank you for creating this plug-in. It’s exactly what I am looking for to help my son raise funds for a project (selling his hand-made candles to buy a motorbike for a pastor in Kenya). However, I can’t get it to work, at all. Now, I’m new to blogging, so your patience is kindly welcome. Thanks for your time, Jennifer
My fundraising target is $10000 and I have reached $3000. But whenever I make these changes in the My Progress admin, it again comes back to $0 and $100. Please let me know how to resolve this issue.
I’m running wordpress 2.8.5 – I”m trying to figure out how to install the progress thermometer in a widget. Please advise..
Also – has anyone been able to reduce the size of the graphic?? Thanks!
Great plugin idea, but I am having the same issue as everyone else. I will change the Current Amount to a figure, and then it reverts back to 0.
For anyone who’s option values revert back to the default values (because there are no values in the database table for these options) when submitting a comment. Rename your submit button in ourprogress.php around line 111 to something unique e.g. submitprog and then also change the corresponding variable name on line 33 if ($_REQUEST['submitprog']). This solved the problem for me.
I had the same problem with my thermometer resetting. It’s a bit of a kluge but I got around it by modifying the ‘our progress.php’ file directly. The show_ourprogress_graphic() includes the following lines of code. Change the $max number once and $current number as your amount changes.
if(get_option(“ourprogressmax”)) {$max = get_option(“ourprogressmax”);} else {$max = “2000000″;}
if(get_option(“ourprogressprogress”)) {$current = get_option(“ourprogressprogress”);} else {$current = 333000;}
Thank you very much Kat. That fixed the settings being erased for me.
Anyone having problems with the numbers not lining up just needs to modify the style.css associated with the theme you are using. The .progressvalue’s top margin should be 16px instead of 25px. Use the code below:
.progressvalue {
border-top: solid 1px #cccccc;
margin: 16px 0px 0px 0px;
}
Is there anyway to change the size of the picture? At 200px it’s too big for my sidebar.
You can create a smaller version yourself if you’re feeling adventurous: First, make a copy of one of the existing styles and rename it. Then (in the copy obviously) reduce the image size in Photoshop or your favorite graphics editor. Then you have to edit the CSS file to match the new dimensions. I also changed the number of repetitions of the side value scale from 10 to 2 in the PHP file, as it looked better at the new smaller size. It’s fiddly but it wasn’t terribly hard.
The issue with the settings being constantly reset is a big one. I thought it was losing its settings when I added other plugins to WordPress but it really seems to just be random. If it keeps happening I will probably just hardcode the values into the PHP file instead of relying on the settings page.
Is this plugin not compatible with the new wordpress upgrade? I put in the string and it shows nothing.
Did anybody work out what to do to show the currency drop down if it is not appearing? Or failing that, How would I change the default currecny from $ to £?
Thanks
James
Friends, can you maybe asssit me? A good friend of mine is considering buying themselves a new CBR 1000 as their first new bike! They have never rode much of anything else before! I did say this is definitely not a very good idea for the first one, but they are adamant and wont change their mind! What do you rekon, is this ok and would u then just recommend good training lessons?
