Isaac’s Way Restaurant

I recently had the pleasure of finishing up a new website for the wonderful people at Isaac’s Way Restraurant, located in the heart of Fredericton New Brunswick. The restrauant has a large involvement in the local community and runs an onsite art auction to support local charities as well as many contests in the comminity. It was critical when putting together the site to ensure staff had the ability to easily update the website and change menu items, art pieces as well as blogs with minimal effort.

In addition to standard anti-spam and caching scripts, the site also features full integration with Twitter, automated keyword suggestions and search engine optimization techniques, Google sitemaps and the Simple Image Grabber to help keep pictures fresh.

Objectives

As with all websites I work on, the site was built around the business objectives and uses a simple design to help communicate the warm family friendly nature of the restaurant, the cheerful staff and the wonderful menu but the real question I asked myself as I scanned dozens of restaurant websites around the world was … why do people come to a restaurant website?

Here’s what I came up with:

  • To gain a sense of the establishment and the food at the restaurant
  • To find out about employment or partnership opportunities
  • To learn about special deals, contests and selection
  • To get contact information, location and parking details

The map tool from Google is a self contained application linking directly to Google’s website. By using it on the webpage, visitors may access standard features such as the Map, Satellite or Terrain maps (as well as Street View when it is available) but more importantly they will also gain access to the Get Direction feature or be able to link the restaurant to local hotels and convention centers.

Throughout the website I’ve included links in both the sidebar and footer to the directions page to ensure visitors are always capable of finding the business quickly and easily.

Stan Cassidy Foundation

Founded in 1957 after a polio epidemic devastation in New Brunswick Canada, Stan Cassidy build a facility with the focus of  rehabilitating Canadians with complex needs.

50 years later, the Stan Cassidy Centre’s strong team of highly skilled experts are providing care to thousands of New Brunswickers suffering from neurological impairments.

The Centre is recognized as a Canadian leader and in the forefront of modern rehabilitation care.

The  Stan Cassidy Foundation website is built to make the most of WordPress as a dedicate content management solution along with a custom website design and search engine optimization.  This website has replaced the Dream Again Campaign site I wrote about a few weeks ago.

The Stan Cassidy Dream Again Campaign

interior render The Stan Cassidy Dream Again Campaign imageOne of the great things about living here in Fredericton is that I have the opportunity to work with wonderful groups such as the Stan Cassidy Foundation to deliver strong, professional websites for meaningful projects.

The Foundation has helped raise money for Stan’s dream of building a world class center for rehabilitation. My job on this project, other than helping with the usual technology support and training was to put together a fund raising website for the organization capable of accepting online donations and effectively communicating the programs objectives to the public.

The resulting website was a success and one of my first uses of WordPress as a content management solution, which allowed staff at the foundation to provide constant updates to the site.

Soon, the website will be replaced with a new, better version but I wanted to ensure it made it into my portfolio here on thisismyrl.com to highlight not just the great creative skills of people like Pierre Allain who’s wonderful logo and layout work was used as a basis for the design but also to highlight the fact that charities and fund raising organizations can create effective, attractive and professional websites with little effort if they find the right team of people to work with.

As soon as I have the new website ready to launch, I’ll be sure to let you all know!

Before I forget, let me also thank Norah Mallory for project managing and spearheading this project. Luckily for her, I’m back on the juice (coffee that is) so I’m ready to go. :)
