Do they assume we’re morons?
So tonight I was exposed to the latest Zune advertisement and frankly I wasn’t terribly comfortable with it so I’ll ask the question that I think all of us are secretly asking, what the fuck hell is with Microsoft’s ad agency? Seriously, first the guy is slightly creepy and second … are we serously meant to believe that we’re going to spend $30 grand a month to fill out iPods vs. $14.95 a month for a Zune?
Full Disclosure: I’m a Mac Fan Boy
That’s right people … I drank the Kool Aid and I love it. I’m writing on a Mac right now while I listen to an iPod and I love it. It’s like Ra himself has embraced me in a cocoon of joy and treated me to a celestial paradise of USB compatibility but that’s not what this is about, it’s about Microsoft and their basic lack of understanding.
My name (up until a few days a ago) was Frank Miller, but I changed it to Christopher Ross because I like the mnemonics of the sound better. See, my name was technically Frank Miller but I’d never really liked Frank and due to a unique Catholic tradition in the North shore of New Brunswick Canada I’d always been called by my middle name (Christopher).
Why didn’t I like Frank? Because it was harsh, the word was strong at the start and weak at the conclusion like a German siege. Frank was a word that simple sounded ugly and frankly I was too pretty for an ugly word. Ditto for the Zune. No matter how you try to say the word Zune is still smells like dirty genitals (which for the record is what the word zune translates to in Canadian french) so why did the marketing wing of Microsoft pick it as the name for their product? My guess, they’re morons.
Listen, here’s the deal … if you can honestly say to me that you’d date a girl name Zune over a girl named iPod let me know because all other things being equal at the very least, they should have been able to name the bloody thing well right? So the deal is simple, publicly profess your love for the Zune here and I’ll personally pick a comment as the winner of a free month of the Zune pass (worth $14.95) and credit your account.
