A while back I built this great free website theme for WordPress for my friends at Great Chef Television and they told me to give it away for free to restaurant owners and chefs to use on their own websites!

To use this theme all you need to do is download the free WordPress theme from my website and install it on your own WordPress website. If you don’t know much about WordPress, don’t worry I can help get a website for free by offering you $75 back in online promotions with Google and Yahoo plus free installation of this great theme and WordPress on a free domain name when you host with BlueHost, the same company that hosts my websites.

Hotlink Protection Plugin for WordPress

Everyday websites suffer performance loss and higher bills due to bandwidth thieves. This plugin adds the necessary code to your .htaccess file to stop people from loading your graphics from third party websites.

What is a bandwidth thief?

Since many website hosting companies charge per file transferred (or total file transfer size for the month), unscrupulous website owners often load key graphic files from smaller, unsuspecting website owners in hopes of both lowering the costs of running their website and increasing the performance of their site.

This plugin uses Apache’s .htaccess capacity to stop foreign websites from loading images from your web server.

Get Better Excerpt Plugin for WordPress

The Get Better Excerpt plugin works almost identical to the built in get_the_excerpt() and the_excerpt() functions except it returns whole words instead of cutting off the excerpt as the existing function does.

The plugin allows you to display the excerpt or read it to a variable, select the number of words to return and choose if you want the plugin to skip the built in excerpt and read from the content instead.

As with all my plugins, this is the code I use here on this is my url to return excerpts throughout the website. You’re free to download it.

Frequently Asked Questions

= How do I display the results? =
Insert the following code into your WordPress theme files: 
= General results =
ithout passing any parameters, the plugin will return ten results or fewer depending on how many posts you have.
 get_better_excerpt();
= Altering the before and after values =
By default the plugin wraps your code in list item (<li>) tags but you can specify how to format the results using the following code:
 get_better_excerpt(‘before=<p>&after=</p>’);
= Adding a Link = 
If you’d like to link to the post (remember it’s not live yet) you can do so by calling:
 get_better_excerpt(‘link=true’); 
= How many words? = 
You can specify the number of words returned using the option:
 get_better_excerpt(‘words=20′); 
 
 = Skip the excerpt? = 
If you would like to load the content directly, skipping the entered excerpt:
 get_better_excerpt(’skipexcerpt=true’); 
 = Include a trailing character? = 
By default the plugin includes a … after the excerpt, you can remove it or change it by altering:
 get_better_excerpt(‘trail=’); 
= Echo vs. Return =
Finally, if you’d like to copy the results into a variable you can return the results as follows:
 get_better_excerpt(’show=false’);

How to use it

Step one download the free template and install it on your WordPress website, it’s really that easy! The theme features a rich, savory graphic from one of the hit TV show’s episodes but you can easily change it to anything you’d like by replacing the photo stored at /images/header.jpg.

The theme features a rich, three column layout for the homepage and a large single column for content within the website. I’ve purposely left formating to a minimum on this theme to allow web designers to rapidly introduce their own creative elements to the theme and make changes.

Being a web designer, I change my themes almost as often as I change my shoes but that always leads to the inevitable question of what to do with the old themes?  Well, I guess the best thing to do is to release them to you, the public!

The Getaway Graphics theme is a prototype theme I developed and used on http://getawaygraphics.com for approximately a year. This theme is actually a recreation of the original but features a lot of great functionality including an easy to navigate side menu, full rich archives and a large main content area.

It is a fixed width theme, at 800 pixels wide, white and blue with dark grey text and solid headers for easy navigation. 

The theme will also help you scale photos to the correct width and includes rich optimized content formating for better search engine placement. Free SEO WordPress Theme for Small Business Web Sites

As part of my goal to create and upload five WordPress themes that are Search Engine Optimized, I’ve finished my second theme, it’s a simple website design for small businesses.

The purpose of this theme was to create a simple, clean, professional website design for companies who need an online presence without the clutter of a normal blog. It’s not a very exciting theme, actually it’s a little on the plain side but it does feature a simple single column design with widget ready footer and nice big text which will help people read the site.

    WordPress Magazine Theme – Free Dark Version

    So after I finished creating A Smashingly Good Free Magazine Theme for WordPress my first WordPress theme focused on Search Engine Optimization, I had some feedback from a couple of friends who liked it but found the theme a little effeminate. To that end I took a bit of time this weekend and put together a slightly darker version, hopefully this will inspire real men to enjoy the theme.
