How can you get a free PR5 link to your website?

Welcome to my blog, please feel free to subscribe to my RSS feed, join me on Twitter or leave a comment.

After much soul searching and a great internal debate about dofollow vs. nofollow I’ve had to stop offering nofollow free links from my website via the comments field. It was a very difficult decision, you’re welcome to read about it here (Why I’ve Decided to Nofollow and How That Will Help You.)

People are amazing, they talk about wanting to drive more traffic to their website and increase their presence on Goggle but how many are really up for the challenge? How many people out there truly want to drive traffic to their website and build an online presence? Are you serious about increasing your own PageRank? Well now is the time to find out.

I’ll give every one of you a free link back on the footer of my website (that’s over 5,000 pages) to help you promote your own website, for free. There’s no catch, no tricks and no limitations. You want to build your website traffic and increase your exposure on the internet? It’s yours for free. All you need to do is compete with the other people reading this to earn one of ten top poster comment spots in the lower right hand corner of my blog.

Here’s how it works, every time somebody posts a comment on my website they not only get a link from the specific page on my blog that they’re commenting on but the website also begins counting the total number of posts they’ve made (and I’ve accepted). The top ten each day get listed in the footer of my website for the world (and more importantly Google) to see.

That means that ten people get  more than 5,500 FREE, high quality PR5 links directly from my website to their website for doing nothing more than commenting on my articles, correcting me when I’m wrong or pointing me to other awesome content on the web. Even if you’re not one of the top 10, you still get at least one or two PR5 links from my website to yours just for leaving the comment.

So how do you know when to comment? Simple, subscribe to my RSS feed, Twitter me or get updates by Email.  Every time I post a new article, you’ll be told and if you can add something to the post, correct one of my many mistakes or point me to a great source for more details … you’ll get a free high quality PR5 link right back to your website.

Google is Changing the Way SEO is Played

It looks like there’s going to be a new sherif in town guess who’s going to be holding the keys to the jail? You. That’s what it look like if Google’s new preferred sites experiment gets off the ground. This is a feature I’ve been hoping for since I first came across a PHP advice website (which will remain nameless). Basically, if the posts are to be believed, Google will allow us to start ranking which websites we prefer to get results for and hopefully, which ones we want to banish to the lower rankings of the SERP’s.

Traditionally, search engine result pages are controlled by a combination of complex algorithms which result in higher ranking (PageRank) web pages appearing at the top of listing while lower ranking websites appear at the bottom. This of course can lead to highly skilled web designers pushing up unrelated results with a focus on promoting their own websites over valid content. What Google has done (at least on a test scale) has allowed users to prefer content from one website (the imbd for example) over other less known websites.

It’s a pretty big assumption but knowing Google’s track record of priding itself on being a forward facing, client focussed web tool I am confident in predicting that Google will be slanting all search results with the data collected from the few active participants. With luck, combining the data with the existing PageRank system will give Google the ability to select with a greater accuracy quality websites.

The process is a little bulky at the moment, users have to register for a Google account and then log into their account and change settings. Hopefully, with a little bit of time this system can be boiled down to something as simple as a method of simply excluding sites on a results page. I dream of the day that I can banish some of the high PR, low quality websites (not me … please, not me) to the basement of results.

(For the record, my wife thinks that I should have gone with my original title which was … This is Truly Orgasmic in a Googley Kind of Way … what do you think?)

Using Inbound Links to Build your online business

Getting a high page rank helps your business get a better place on Googles coveted Search Engine Results Page (SERP), it represents the trust Google has placed in your website as a valid source of knowledge and is calculated through a complex web of algorithms known only to Google.

So what types of sites have high page ranks? It might actually surprise you.

An online casino website such as After Work Casino has a tremendously respectable Google PageRank of 6 while sex.com, which sold for $14 million in January 2006 manages only a 5 (the same as thisismyurl.com). Even more surprisingly, $9,999,950 bought fund.com a PR of just … 3. A quick search of Google reveals a small part of why.

Inbound Links

results 300x59 Using Inbound Links to Build your online business imageGoogle has a build in tool for web masters which allows us to view the statistics of any website on the Internet and measure how many websites are linking to it. When we look at the online casino website afterworkcasino.com, using the link: syntax, it reveals 324 inbound links while fund.com, a $10,000,000 domain name has only 9 inbound links.  In my article Does Your Web Site Help, or Hurt Your Business? I mentioned that I wouldn’t link to a website because I understood how the Internet works. In this case, if I had linked to his website, Google would have interpreted my link as a vote.

Using the Google link: operator

Using the simple link: syntax (you can try it here) you’ll see that the first step to an online casino building such a respectable PR value is in it building a strong volume of incoming links. The second part of the equation? The quality of each link.

Quality of course is measured in PageRank for the incoming website. There’s a great article over on Wikipedia about the PageRank system, what it basically boils down to is that Google assigns your website a score based on the volume and rank of each website that links to your website.

For example: If a friend linked his website (PR4) to your website, Google would take his PR4 link as a “vote” for your website. If dozens of PR4 websites linked to you? Google would know your website was at least a PR4 worthy website.

Where it gets tricky however is that the number of outbound links on a page effects the value of the outbound link, as does a number of hidden factors known only to Google.

Earning a High PageRank

Higher PageRanks equal higher positioning on Google’s search results. That’s important to any business, so getting a high PR is important to business but how do you do it? This article has demonstrated the technical mechanics of earning a high PR. To apply it in real life, all you really need to do is convince other, highly regarded websites in your industry to link to you.

To earn a high rank in Google, follow these simple steps:

  1. Write great content. The best way to increase your inbound links, and the most passive method is to write content that people want to read. Write about your industry, your products and your market on your own website. If it’s helpful, people will link to it.
  2. Write for other websites. Get in touch with others in your area or specialty and write special guest articles for sites such as your local business ground. The back links to your business, combined with the exposure will add significantly to your presence on the web.
  3. Community Involvement. One of the best things about blogs is the comment area below each post. As a blog owner, I look forward to your constructive comments, as long as they’re related to the post. Better yet, Google sees the link as a step from one website to another. We can discuss dofollow limitations in another article. Beyond blogs, forums and other public message boards are also great places to link to your website.

How to get a PageRank of 5

For those of you who know nothing at all about PageRanks and Alexa rankings, let me explain that they’re the modern equivenant of a Nielsen ratings for websites.

Alexa measures your website performance by volunteer users, in effect millions of average people agree to allow Alexa to collect statistics about their surfing habits and from that data, Alexa tracks and monitors activity on the Internet. At Halloween this year, Alexa ranked my website at 2,291,883. Today it’s at 231,354 which is a 1790% improvement for spending about 20 minutes a day on my website.

Google on the other hand ranks your website by looking at who your website connects to and in return, who connects to your website. That’s a pretty over simplified way to look at it but it’s also the general gist of the method. It’s a bit like a popularity contest, Google believes that if websites with high page ranks (the system is from 0 to 10) link to you consistently, your content must be of a certain value.

So now that you understand what a PageRank and Alexa ranking mean, here’s how I earned my respectable rankings in both … (drum roll anybody?) … quality content, consistently posted.

I know that you’re all hoping for a much better answer than that but sadly it’s the truth. My very good friend Chris Bavota jumped from a PR0 to a PR4 in just three months, doing exactly the same thing … he posts great articles that people love to read and he makes sure that he does it regularly.

Chris and I followed some easy to understand advice:

Once that was done, both Chris and I did what any self respecting blog owner would do:

  • we used deep linking techniques to ensure our readers know about related content on our website
  • we posted links to other peoples blogs, helping our readers find similar content
  • we let other blog owners know that we had articles of interest for their readers

There are no scams, no black hat SEO techniques, no short cuts and no tricks. Quality rankings on a quality search engine takes nothing more than a little bit of effort, quality content and the determination to contribute something positive to the Internet as a whole.

I got a new page rank for Christmas

So this year I wasn’t sure what to get myself for Christmas but at the last minute I came up with the perfect gift, a new Pagerank. I know most of you are either saying that you have no idea what a page rank is or that you simply don’t care but to me, earning a promotion in my sites authority is a huge step and I truly want to say thank you to each and every person who’s helped me along the way.

So what am I going to do with my new fancy page rank of 5? (that’s right Bavota … I kick butt) well, I’m going to keep doing what I’ve always done I suppose, I’m going to keep writing content which I hope adds a little bit to the rich tapestry we call the Internet and I’m going to try  to help people learn about technology and with luck, I’m going to be able to keep linking to amazing websites who will in turn think something I’ve written is worth linking to.

Thanks to everybody who reads my blog, I love hearing from you and hope you’ve all had as great a holiday season as I have. Now if you’ll excuse me, it’s my anniversary and I have a turkey to cook.
