free wordpress theme

Well it’s been a little while since I uploaded a new theme but as before, this one is fully optimized and ready to help you community or non-profit group show up in the Google rankings.

The theme design has been created as a basic, no thrills piece which can be easily added upon for most community groups, churches and non-profit organizations which are seeking an easy way to  get their website online.

I’ve included a lot of Search Engine Optimization tricks in this theme by default.

Getaway Graphics WordPress Theme

Being a web designer, I change my themes almost as often as I change my shoes but that always leads to the inevitable question of what to do with the old themes?  Well, I guess the best thing to do is to release them to you, the public!

The Getaway Graphics theme is a prototype theme I developed and used on http://getawaygraphics.com for approximately a year. This theme is actually a recreation of the original but features a lot of great functionality including an easy to navigate side menu, full rich archives and a large main content area.

It is a fixed width theme, at 800 pixels wide, white and blue with dark grey text and solid headers for easy navigation.

The theme will also help you scale photos to the correct width and includes rich optimized content formating for better search engine placement. Since this is my first WordPress theme in a while, I’ll be improving upon it greatly over the next few months, if you’d like to offer support or feedback please visit my new forums at http://forums.thisismyurl.com to leave feedback about the theme.

WordPress 2.7.1 Released

The first maintenance fix for WordPress 2.7 has been released this morning, it’s a fairly big one addressing a whole slew of minor issues. You can update automatically using the WP admin tool (which is cool to see) and it’s also nice to see that Matt’s decided not  to force self hosted blogs to write WordPress correctly (yet).

What did it fix?

  2. Inline Documentation for wp-admin/includes Files
  3. edit link form typo
  4. “Right Now” dashboard box needs a clearing break at the bottom

  20. POST-request, but content-length missing -> 411
  21. show_name docs say it defaults to 1, but it defaults to 0
  22. Tag cloud order priority is broken

Free WordPress Theme – Pink Flowers

Pink Flower Theme

Pink Flower Theme

I’ve just wrapped up another free WordPress theme for you guys, it’s a clean and simple traditional blog theme using a lot of pink. Some people have previously commented that some of my themes are a little bit less manly than they could be but there’s a reason I choose to do these themes in pinks and blues … because there are not a lot of themes out there in pink and blue.

As with all my themes, this one is setup to be Search Engine Optimized and makes use of proper title tags, document hierarchy and W3C compatible xHTML / CSS so even if you don’t know a thing about making cool websites, this theme is already designed for you.

Speaking of design, a special thanks to designious.com for creating the awesome flower pattern and to Smashing Magazine for making it available for free.

One other note, this theme makes use of my really cool WordPress technique for showing both icons and text in your WordPress links.

The theme is 100% free, I designed it with an ad on the left hand sidebar but you can easily remove it in the sidebar.php file (it’s even commented) all that I ask is that you don’t change the footer, but even that’s optional. If you’re using it, I’d love to hear from you.

Bloody Mess of a WordPress Theme

bloody hell 288x300 Bloody Mess of a WordPress Theme image

This theme started out as a Christmas theme for WordPress but when I couldn’t find a good set of Christmas lights it all went horribly, horribly wrong. It’s based off the Free Community Friendly Theme I did earlier today so you can see how easily things can be modified.

As with my earlier themes, this one is optimized for search engine optimization.

WordPress Magazine Theme – Free Dark Version

So after I finished creating A Smashingly Good Free Magazine Theme for WordPress my first WordPress theme focused on Search Engine Optimization, I had some feedback from a couple of friends who liked it but found the theme a little effeminate. To that end I took a bit of time this weekend and put together a slightly darker version, hopefully this will inspire real men to enjoy the theme.

smashingly dark magazine theme 207x300 WordPress Magazine Theme Free Dark Version image The theme still uses header artwork from Smashing Magazine as well as the icons. I’ve darkened the great tiling background I found online for free.

I’m not going to count this theme towards my WordPress theme focused on Search Engine Optimization but I am going to let you download it for free. Smashingly Good Free Magazine Theme for WordPress

On Friday I promised to create some free SEO focused website templates for WordPress. The is the first in the series, a three column magazine layout style theme which you can use to power your business, community organization or church.

The header artwork comes from Smashing Magazine. They also provided the icons, but not the great tiling background that I came across a few weeks ago. The template design has been tested in WordPress 2.6 on Safari and FireFox as well as Internet Explorer. I’ve depended a lot on a series of article by Nathan Rice on Search Engine Optimization for WordPress as well as a few SEO articles of my own.

Free WordPress Theme – A Night in Paris

wordpress themes 20081009 233x300 Free WordPress Theme A Night in Paris imageMy partner in crime, Chris Bavota has added a free custom theme for WordPress on Tinker Priest Media.

A Night in Paris is a two-column WordPress theme with a three-column lower section. It features large images with overlying text for the latest three posts. In order to make this feature work properly three custom fields must be created on each post.

For the larger image, create a custom field key called “bigimage” and place the url location of the image in the value. The image should have a width of 550px and a height of 269px.

For the two smaller images, create a custom field key called “smallimage” and place the url location of the image in the value

  • Minimalist Fixed Free WordPress Theme

    Demo of Minimalist Fixed

The Minimalist Fixed theme for WordPress is a free theme designed to be clean, white and very easy to read. The theme favors usability over design, although I also believe that it’s well designed :)

The theme features a clean, broad design with a fixed width. The header is designed to be focus attention on the site title and description using a vivid red on white background while the content also used a wide formating for easy reading. The menu is located just below the site description is non-intrusive and easy to navigate.

I’ve placed the traditional side content at the bottom of the design using a three column split, personally I find this ensures it’s out of the way and visible only when you’ve finished reading the article or post above.

The theme has been tested in WordPress 2.6.x in Internet Explorer, FireFox and Safari as well as on the Nintendo Wii and Apple iPhone.
