How can you get a free PR5 link to your website?

After much soul searching and a great internal debate about dofollow vs. nofollow I’ve had to stop offering nofollow free links from my website via the comments field. It was a very difficult decision, you’re welcome to read about it here (Why I’ve Decided to Nofollow and How That Will Help You.)

People are amazing, they talk about wanting to drive more traffic to their website and increase their presence on Goggle but how many are really up for the challenge? How many people out there truly want to drive traffic to their website and build an online presence? Are you serious about increasing your own PageRank? Well now is the time to find out.

I’ll give every one of you a free link back on the footer of my website (that’s over 5,000 pages) to help you promote your own website, for free. There’s no catch, no tricks and no limitations. You want to build your website traffic and increase your exposure on the internet? It’s yours for free. All you need to do is compete with the other people reading this to earn one of ten top poster comment spots in the lower right hand corner of my blog.

Here’s how it works, every time somebody posts a comment on my website they not only get a link from the specific page on my blog that they’re commenting on but the website also begins counting the total number of posts they’ve made (and I’ve accepted). The top ten each day get listed in the footer of my website for the world (and more importantly Google) to see.

That means that ten people get  more than 5,500 FREE, high quality PR5 links directly from my website to their website for doing nothing more than commenting on my articles, correcting me when I’m wrong or pointing me to other awesome content on the web. Even if you’re not one of the top 10, you still get at least one or two PR5 links from my website to yours just for leaving the comment.

So how do you know when to comment? Simple, subscribe to my RSS feed, Twitter me or get updates by Email.  Every time I post a new article, you’ll be told and if you can add something to the post, correct one of my many mistakes or point me to a great source for more details … you’ll get a free high quality PR5 link right back to your website.

Google Analytics Helpful Tip

OK, it’s not a surprise that I’m a huge fan of Google Analytics right? It’s only one of the greatest free online website tools in the history of the great free online website tools (so, about 15 years) but it’s also my honest to goodness secret to making money on the Internet. I’m willing to tell you that for free.

How do you make money with Google Analytics? Easy, you analyze your data everyday and depending upon what the results tell you, you shift your course repeatedly until you catch the best winds. The only problem is that you have to use the Analytics code properly which leads me to my helpful tip … the JavaScript code provided to you by Google must be placed on every page. I kid you not, this morning I talked for an hour to a man who runs an online store … the code was only on his home page.

The moral of this story to web zealots like myself? Before you spend nearly a day combing through other data to determine why the website traffic was 200x higher than his Analytics data … double check that somebody didn’t forget to place it in the footer of each page.

On that note … why the footer?

OK, there’s a few reasons why I always place my Analytics data in the footer instead of the header. First, pages load their content and display it to the user before the JavaScript is sourced from Google. If there’s a delay in fetching the code, the user still sees the content. Second, if something is going to go wrong with compatibility … the page loads first. Are you noticing a trend yet? Yep, always serve the customer first and then yourself. Finally … the big one. By loading the JavaScript at the bottom of the file, you can do a bulk search and replace on static websites to put the Google JavaScript code at between the </body> and </html> which saves everybody time, energy and money.

SEO Companies & Services

Photo Credit: Danard VincenteOn my blog I talk about search engine optimization a lot. In fact, many might assume that I believe myself to be an expert on the subject but in truth, I’m just very lucky and hard working when it comes to making my website rank well. There are companies which specialize in Search Engine Optimization services who spend all their time trying to get your website ranked higher.

SEO firms will use a number of methods to increase your online exposure, many are things that you should be doing yourself to get more website traffic but something it’s faster and better to hire the experts. Remember to talk to your SEO firm and establish a clear goal for what you want to accomplish, there’s a funny story somewhere on my site about my time at Corel when our Web Marketing guru insisted we needed 100,000 visitors a day. I corrected her saying that we need 1,000 prospective customers per day. There’s a big difference and you need to be firm with your SEO team to let them know that.

Before you hire a Search Engine Optimization company, take a few moments and learn about their practices, techniques and what they’re reallying going to do for your company. Remember, Google isn’t just a giant robot (although their robots are) it’s a company with the motto do no evil. Keep that very simple line in mind when hiring an SEO firm, do no evil.

Search Engine Optimization Services

Do you remember years ago, the movie told us that if you built it, they would come? Well that’s simply not true. You can hope for a Christmas miracle but trust me when I tell you that the vast majority of the time, energy and resources you spend associated with your website will be related to the marketing of it. In retail, there’s a theory which states that if all marketing considerations are equal, your market percentage will directly correlate to your square footage in that market.

The web is still too young for us to come up with such a snappy statement but there’s a similar concept for us. Your website’s success is directly associated to the quality of your search engine optimization.

Why? That makes no sense right? Especially if, as a couple of my recent clients told me, you don’t plan on using Google as the main source of your traffic. Well there’s part of the problem … where you plan to generate traffic is irrelevant, traffic is organic and it ebbs or flows based on what it, not you dictate so if you’re looking to get more website traffic it’s time to find a good partner to help.

How? The first thing you need to do is either start reading a lot of materials and blogs or find a search engine optimization company who can assist by offering comprehensive search engine optimization services. If you want to save some upfront money, you can start by reading basically everything by Matt Cutts, he’s one of Google’s boys … OK, secretly I think Matt might actually be Google. It’s just a theory but I think that Google is run off his laptop, when you search for something he personally types the results. Maybe not, but USA Today has a great article with him on driving traffic to your website.

When? That’s an easy one. It’s an odd fact but the best time to optimize your website is the exact same as the best time to plant an apple tree, ten years ago. The second best time is today.
