As Jordan reported over on All Your Phone Are Belong to Google: iPhone Ads and G1s Coming, Google’s phone was released and sold out this morning (no surprise there) but what was a surprise was a link to Google Readies iPhone Ad Options over at adweek.
I know most people are not huge fans of ads but I love them. Frankly, I’m lazy and the ads served up from Google are great, they help me get what I want faster. As one friend of mine put it, she almost always goes to the ads before Googles regular content because people have paid to be there. Her logic is that if people have paid for the placement, they must be fairly sure your keywords match their content.
So with that said, what I was a little disappointed to see that GPS powered ads are not on the table. I would love the ability to search for a phrase like beer and have a map of my local area appear with paid ads for the local pubs. To me, the purpose of having an iPhone is easy access to maps so giving me geographically specific ad results would be a feature I’d love to have.
What do you think? Would you sacrifice your privacy to Google in return for knowing where the closest pizza shop was?
