What is a PageRank?
It’s been a while since I did a summary of some of the websites that I read, but this week I think I’d like to get back into sharing a few of the sites and specifically articles that I enjoyed. Starting with a handful of great pieces on PageRank. For those of you who still don’t know what a PageRank is (or why it’s so important to the success of your website) try giving Collin LaHay a read. He has a lot of great pieces on the importance of linking. There’s also a great piece called PageRank: Some Basics which will give you a really great high level understanding.
The Busby SEO Test article is a really interesting case study on what to do (and sometimes not to do) to help get a better PR, while the list over at 600 ofollow blogs will help you achieve your objectives. Ever wonder what impact your anchor text has on SEO? I know I have. If you’re looking for a variety of SEO Tools then you’re in luck, there’s also a ton of tutorials on the site.
Well, that’s a round up of the type of SEO stuff I’m reading today. If you have any great links you’d like to share please feel free to include them below.

PageRank is a link analysis algorithm used by the Google Internet search engine that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of “measuring” its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references. The numerical weight that it assigns to any given element E is also called the PageRank.
These are all way over my head and too technical. I like to read simple to understand plain English posts.

LOL Nicole, I completely agree :)
Great list of resources Christopher. It looks like we have a homework assignment. I’ll be taking a peak at the articles your citing, mainly because YOU cited them. I’ll report back! :o)

Thinks for the links. I am a subscriber to Collin’s Blog and he shares great link buiding ideas.
Hi Christopher,
I got a ping from Google coming from site. :)
Oh yes, I have been some laboratory tests on my website and at the same time understand how Google works. Pagerank and SERP.
Glad that I already have a lot of valid observations after a lot of postings, tweakings and optimizations.
As of this writing, my website is rank 6 in Google and it has a lot of PRs for my subpages.

I’ve been visiting the links offered in this post this morning and found many useful resources. Probably spent too much time, but learned some things and discovered others. The anchor text link you offered in the last paragraph didn’t make sense to me. I wonder if the page has changed or something.

PageRank is Google’s system for ranking web pages. A page with a higher PageRank is deemed more important and is more likely to be listed above a page with a lower PageRank.
Remember Joe, the best thing you can do it learn from every resource you can find out there!
