Web Marketing for Lawyers

Building a great websites for lawyers is only step one in a long series of online marketing techniques that a modern lawyer should consider when looking at their marketing budget. There are other factors that affect legal websites which while all web clients should consider, are particularly important for those in the legal community.

Legal websites need to be private.

Every business needs to be concerned about the privacy of their client base but lawyers especially need to appreciate the delicate balance of collecting user information via web forms, the storage of that information and of course, how they use it.

Take for example a simple case in which a lawyer here in Fredericton New Brunswick choose to create a website and in the process, signs up for a great web hosting company such as Bluehost (my personal favourite). The difficultly is, that while Bluehost offers great service, they're not a Canadian web hosting company and as such information gathered on their website is subject to US privacy laws as well as review by government agencies.

This isn't just a concern for legal websites in Canada, the same holds true for a lawyer in Nevada who's website collects personal data or emails and stores them outside that specific jurisdiction. While I don't profess to be an expert on legal matters, it is vital for lawyers with websites to appreciate not only the privacy matters of their website but which jurisdictions their site is located in.

Legal websites need to be secure.

Anybody running WordPress for their website would benefit reading my article How to Secure Your WordPress Website but again, lawyers need to be aware of the extra steps needed to secure their websites from unwanted intrusions after all, if a malicious surfer choose to redirect traffic to a competitor or even post malicious content on their homepage it could be damaging to an industry concerned with image.
